On October 31st, 2022, I lost my wife of 34 years to cancer. Her birthday is in a few days and my birthday is exactly one month later. So today, I am starting a 34 day fast. I have done many fasts before, but none longer than 7 days. So this is going to be a real challenge and that’s why I’m writing this post–to create an external pressure to help me keep my committment.
Wish me luck!
What a beautiful way to honor your wife and relationship - I am so sorry for your loss!
Please remember to be gentle with yourself during this time. A lot of physical and emotional things come up during fasting. 34 days is a very long time to fast, and depending on your definition of fasting (water/OMAD/etc), you could get frustrated or feel like you failed if you need to change your initial plans. You can still challenge yourself in a good way while listening to your body and giving yourself grace.
Good luck over the next 34 days and beyond - looking forward to hearing your experiences and results!
Good luck..I am just finishing 14 days…my only comment is beware the emotions that will come bubbling up…you may have many that are very close to the surfaces. My condolences on the death of your wife, it must be a very difficult time for you.
My condolences. I don’t know you but I can’t imagine how tough that would be.
I really hope that after a week of your fast you look at other ways to honor your wife. At some point fasting benefits are outweighed by the cons an I’m sure she would have been equally happy from you fostering 34 kitties or some such.
Good luck on your fast.
