Starting intermittent fasting

I’m a Muslim and have experience of fasting. However, is it safe for a first timer like me to go full 18 hours of not eating anything? I’m using an app and weigh about 78 kg which is roughly 180 pounds. Does electrolytes subside the effects of the fasting?

Answer

Im also a little under 180 pounds in the 170’s now, and tomorrow will be my first weigh in after fasting 18 hours and eating 6 hours for a whole week.

The standard intermittent fasting period and probably most common from what I’ve seen is 16 hour fasting and 8 hour eating. You can start with that and see how it fits your lifestyle. I would reccomend eating maintenance calories and focus on the schedule of the fasting period to suit your lifestyle.

I fast from 8pm till 2pm the next day to match it with my work lunches and Ive just kept the same schedule even on my days of work and it just works good for me.

Drinking water throughout the day for sure, and it controls hunger because it often gets confused with thirst and after about a day or two hunger naturally gets supressed and you wont be thinking about food during your fast. Ive found that I have more energy when Im fasted compared to when Im eating, in my experiences. Hope you find your way.
