Starting the new year with a 7 day fast!

Hello fasting community,

Like many of us over Christmas, I plan to overindulge (and have frankly already started!), but would like to kick January off with a week long fast to shed my water weight and really get in the zone.

How do I maintain my motivation throughout and ignore hunger pangs?

How much have folks also lost over 7 days previously?

I plan to drink coffee with almond milk and sweetener, diet energy drinks and sugarfree sports drinks (as well as water, of course).

I’m 32f, around 71kgs, and 165cm. Would like to be around 60kgs.

Hey there I just finished an 8 day fast last night, hopefully this can help!

The main thing that I did to achieve this fast (my longest one so far!) - When you’re hungry or tempted to eat, “play the tape/play it forward” in your head. I did this when overcoming my alcoholism and it worked exactly the same for fasting! Basically when you want to eat, play the whole thing through your head. Imagine smelling it then eating it. Ok you ate it. Was it really worth it? And now you probably feel down because you broke your fast. Embody that down feeling you’d have if you broke your fast. Is that one bite or one meal worth it? Now come back into present moment and keep going on your fast.

I lost 8-9lbs during this fast, almost the same kg as you but slightly taller and just drink your electrolytes every day, I do a sachet or 2 of snake juice.

Good luck!!! You got this!👍

I would recommend against this. If you want a cup or 2 of coffee, black, in the morning to get you started, fine. But almond milk and sweetener and even diet drinks may trigger a spike in insulin and make hunger pangs much more real. I know you said you did this on Keto, but this isn’t Keto. This is water fasting.

Having just completed my first 6-day fast with ease, I can say the thing that I did differently compared to other fasts was get a LOT of electrolytes. 3600mg of sodium and 1600mg of potassium. Every day. I also drank around 64 to 96oz of water. And 2 cups of black coffee in the morning. And nothing else.

Drinking salty water may not seem like fun, but it’s really the best way to water fast. By the 3rd day, I had zero hunger. I felt like I could have fasted for weeks.

just don’t, it’ll make you very hungry because the spiked Insulin throws you out of Ketosis everytime

>and ignore hunger pangs?

by not drinking anything artificial sweetened. Drink water with electrolytes, period.

I’m definitely starting a multi day fast on January 1st, around 3-7 days, depending on social commitments.

My advice, make fasting work for you. Whether that’s using a splash of almond milk or an occasional diet energy drink/soda, if it works, it works. And if it doesn’t, you can always eliminate those drinks and see if that helps. Also, don’t forget electrolytes! Those definitely help with the headaches/lethargy.

Keeping busy/entertained is key for me during longer fasts (a new hobby, cleaning my house, reorganizing my closet or just starting a new series on Netflix ;))

Good luck with your fast!

I am on the 2nd day of a fast I plan to break Xmas Eve. I did the Same thing before Thanksgiving and did not over indulge. I do IF on the other days eating in the evening and have done a few shorter fasts sprinkled in.

I may end up losing 7 pounds or so this month. TG week I lost 7 pounds but mostly water weight. 7 pounds is quite a bit for me as I am now at the high end of normal weight and have around 20 pounds to go, maybe.

I like having holidays to plan fasts around. They are easier than expected. I plan on another fast going into the new year. Then I will have to plan something for V day. Surprisingly, I am finding holiday fasts nice. I feel as if I have accomplished something and that is a great feeling even beyond the other benefits such as wearing aspirational clothes.

When I feel hungry, I take Ultima with sparkling water, tea with stevia or (rarely) Splenda. I have broth on hand but have not had any lately. I also walk for an hour a day weather allowing and that also helps with hunger.

Happy holidays!

I’m going for 21 after the first.

I’ve done several 7s and this will be my first 21.

I drink black coffee, sparkling/mineral water, water and my own electrolyte mix (pink sea salt, pure radiance vit C powder, cream of tartar and ACV if I’m feeling froggy). I find that I have no physical hunger after day 3 and only psychological hunger on day 4. Avoid any flavor that isn’t salty because it WILL keep you hungry. I learned that when I was adding a couple drops of stevia to my nightly herbal tea.
