Stomach pain after breaking fast?

I completed a 39 hour fast this morning, my first ever extended fast. I broke it with chicken and broccoli, then ate another serving of chicken for lunch, and made a potentially awful mistake…I ate a candy bar (a very small one). Now I’m having pretty bad stomach pain. I am wondering if this is normal? Is it possible that tiny little candy bar is causing this? Or something else?

If this is your first long fast and first pissed off stomach try not to read too much into it. You may have caught your stomach by surprise but it can get used to the change of pace.

When I was into long distance ridging (100+ mile/days) I learned to eat while on the saddle and at cruising speed. The first time I ate a protein bar while riding I almost puked it on the side of the road. As I persisted I worked my way up that ladder and got my stomach used to digesting close to 400 calories per hour. Same thing with sudden changes in diet; once I gave up meat for a month just for shiggles; going back to meat my stomach did not like it either.

Take your time, see what works best for you. Each stomach is different.

I did a three day fast once with veggie juice twice a day and water the rest. Day 4 I went to pick up a pizza for my kids, and the smell was too much. I ate 4 slices and felt really full, but that about it.
