Stomach pain when fasting.

Hello,

I have a question. I am fasting (40 hours into 8 hour eating window) and normally I have zero issues. I’m experiencing stomach growls and also stomach pains.

Now the pains and this amount of growling is new to me. The only thing I changed is the electrolytes. I went to a pill form. It might be the pill concentrates to much salt in to my stomach. So I will quit taking the pills for now. I have done some research and some in this Reddit say that capsules of electrolytes can cause this issue. So I figure pills might as well. I will have to see if I can disolve the pill in water before drinking it. Or just quit taking the pill alltogether.

When I eat the pain goes away and so do the hunger pangs. The pain also sometimes dissapears but it usually stays a long time. As soon as I eat something in volume however it stops all together. While still making my stomach feel empty though.

Any ideas?

Answer

I have had that, the pain you are describing is most likely from the salt pills. Your stomach acid reacts with salt when it breaks into ions. You should only consume electrolytes via liquid. The other option is an IV saline bag, but most people don’t have access to that. My advice is to checkout LMNT drink powder.
