Stomach pains when breaking fast

I just broke my 16hr fast with a few slices of apple and peanut butter. Eating slow. Have been drinking a lot of water. Not taking any meds and my stomach hurts SO BAD. Happens each time.

I’m new so I wanted to know if this goes away? Is this normal? Have others experienced similar?

NOTE: I’m gonna say, consult your physician/dietician. Especially if you’re on medication and doing IF.

I’ve had stomach cramps. But I wasn’t on any medication. And I had just ate too much too fast or else what I was eating was too much for my stomach.

One thing you could try, outside of a physician, is to break your fast with ONLY Carbs or ONLY Fats. Apple is a sugary carb and peanut butter is a saturated fat. So- not a great idea for breaking a fast.

Breaking a fast with some bone broth will be a good Fat-Only break. Fat also lines the stomach so you feel fuller for a longer time. For a good carb, you’d want something that doesn’t have a lot of sugar or refined calories in it and is a bit softer. Salads could work, even just like a tomato and cucumber salad.

There is a guy on YouTube, Dr.Jason Fung that goes into some detail. This guy is the gold standard for IF practicing.

I just finished a 70 hour fast last night. Had dinner which was a piece of 4 oz of brisket and 1/2 of a salami sandwich in a cauliflower wrap (0 carbs in wrap ). I had stomach pains all night. I could not sleep even after propping myself up. I got in the morning and puked a little. It was the worse feeling. I think I just did not plan correctly on refeeding. I won’t go over 48 hours now as it was just too painful. Hindsight could have needed to poop as well since it was over three days. Took magnesium this morning and it did the trick.

I’m not a pro. I’ve started this journey recently. From what I’ve read and experienced so far, when you break your fast go with a few bites of a lean protein first. Chicken/Fish. Then wait a bit, then go for the little heavier stuff
