One of the things I understand from reading the Obesity Code (almost finished), it that too much sugar and snacking results in insulin resistance and obesity. I have changed my diet to cut out sweets and I only eat twice a day, so I think I’m on the path to reversing this, but I don’t know if there is a sort of sugar detox period in which your body starts the process of regulating insulin better. Does this take months or years? I’m not just talking about losing weight, I’m just talking about insulin resistance.
I think it has taken me a couple months to become more insulin sensitive. We become insulin resistant when we ask our body to constantly produce insulin. Carbohydrates require insulin to get the glucose into the cell. By fasting and going low carb, my body no longer is getting the levels of insulin it used to. It has hours and hours with no insulin spikes. As a result I think I’ve become much more insulin sensitive and my blood sugar measurements are significantly lower than when I began. I really think results are sooner rather than later. My understanding is the if a person is already diabetic (I’m not- not prediabetuc even), it takes longer. Ps I feel like I have a sugar addiction but Fung’s approach has significantly cut my cravings!
The main thing for me was to only eat during a window of time. I went from a 8 hour window to a 4 hour window now and I feel great. The 20 hours I don’t eat gives the body time to process and burn off the excess sugar in my system that is being stored in my body.
Don’t forget to work on Stress and Sleep if those are also problem points for you. Cleaning up your food & eating pattern is very important, but Stress and poor Sleep will slow down your progress.
