Does anyone here do a small dry fast once a week/fortnight? I’ve been thinking of doing one 36-48hr dry fast per week. I workout 3-4 days per week and was wondering if I still needed to consume protein on my off days (when I’m planning to dry fast) or if it’s just as effective to double my protein intake the day before the dry fast.
And if so what benefits have you noticed from doing these small consistent dry fasts? I know people see significant results from prolonged fasting, however seeing the results from short reoccurring dry fasts may take longer.
You can definitely do 36-48hr dry fasts once a week. It would be similar to water fasting for 3 days. If you like the snake diet guy, he recommends in one of his lives to prep the dry fast with a kidney shot or some baking soda in water, do your dry fast, then break your fast and eat before working out. I wouldn’t double the protein intake before as that just gives the body more glycogen to use up before you reach any autophagy/fat burning. If you only workout 4 days a week, you can just do light cardio on the fasting days if you’re feeling up for it, or don’t work out those days.
I do 15-20 hours daily and then every so often I will do a 36 hour stretch. I’ve only done a few prolonged dry fasts but I feel like the intermittent with a few 36ers has been just as effective based on other peoples experiences. Looking back at pictures of myself 10 years ago, I look way healthier now after consistently keeping up with fasting. My skin is much softer, I don’t have any acne, bumps or anything… perfects skin if I must say myself.
I didn’t really have any other health issues other than I would get super itchy rashes rather frequently on my skin, but that is long gone.
Just a thought about the protein; todays protein intake is usually way more than the need for it. Not often double or more. Fasting also increases growth hormones so I would take the opportunity to have one day less of protein (without increasing other days) and relieve the organs a bit from the protein digestion without losing muscle mass.
