I personally think sweet potatoes are sweet enough without brown sugar, but if you must, in moderation is the key. A half cup of brown sugar is not moderation, though. Did you mean a half tsp or half tbsp? That would be much better.
Yeah, I don’t think that’s good. You got something sweet, plus a ridiculous amount of sugar. Maybe it’s a flavor thing? Have you tried yams instead.
Also…are you talking the white or yellow/orange ones? Different areas and families use sweet potato and yam interchangably.
I hate the white sweet potatoes, but give me a orange yam with a tiny bit of butter and pinch of salt, oh my my my. So good!
We bake sweet potatoes in the oven or air fryer, cut them in half and each have a half.
We top it with steamed sweet corn, fresh chopped onion, bell pepper and black beans or chickpeas.
Toss the veggies and beans in a tablespoon of cumin, chili powder, fresh garlic and jerk seasoning first.
Top off with half an avocado and some fresh lime juice. DELICIOUS.
You don’t need to add anything to sweet potatoes, they’re naturally sweet (orange ones). If your making them as mashed sweets then I’d add some milk just to help mash em up. Along with some salt and pepper.
Yes like everyone has mostly said already, 1/2 for a sweet potato is a huge amount of sugar. I would recommend just sprinkling some cinnamon on and roasting it to give a good caramelized flavor. I cut mine in half and put some oil and salt, skin side down and roast for like 25-35 min depending on size and they come out with great flavor.
