Tea on an empty stomach makes me nauseated - other caffeine options?

Hi, sorry if this has been asked a million times! I want to try 16/8 fasting but my one hang up is that I cannot drink coffee (it gives me life destroying anxiety) and green tea on an empty stomach makes me feel very queasy. I don’t want to do diet soda. What would be a way to get some caffeine in the morning? I’m debating just giving it up until noon, unless someone else has thought of a solution.

Thank you!

Answer

So it might be the caffeine itself that’s making you queasy, it can be harsh on an empty stomach for some folks. You could try exploring some other lower caffeinated coffee and teas options. Or do an uncaffeinated beverage first and then a caffeinated one after your stomach isn’t totally empty.

Answer

I cannot drink tea on an empty stomach, just like you! Instead, I drink very diluted coffee… E. g. 1/3 of the mug filled with regular drip coffee and then topped the rest of the 2/3 with boiling water. This does not give me anxiety or aggravate my stomach.

Answer

Same issue with tea. My solution was coffee but these are my thoughts.

Can you dilute the coffee down so you don’t get anxiety?

A green tea extract of Theanine with coffee is supposed to reduce anxiety so that may help.

Perhaps a stomach soother such as ginger in your green tea will help.

Have you tried white tea?

Perhaps B12 would give you the boost you are after?

Answer

I do a ton of herbals teas while fasting but yea green and black tea hurt my tummy. Some of my favorites are : lemon tea, ginger probiotic tea, spearmint tea, raspberry tea, blueberry acai tea!! I am a tea fanatic! After I break my fast I can have some early gray and such. I also do a sparkling aha the one with electrolytes and caffeine and that keeps me going

Answer

Have you tried other herbal teas like lemon and ginger? Nice flavour, low/no tannins which can cause nausea. It’s also good for making sure you are properly hydrated.

I’m working on breaking the need for caffeine. Can’t do coffee either, I drink soda instead. Need to stop because of the sugar too.

Answer

On an empty stomach, I can only drink diluted black coffee or black tea. Plain Green tea gives me discomfort. So, I stick to medium roast black coffee or Darjeeling tea and brew it normally but add 50% hot water to my brew to dilute it and drink it over half an hour with sips of plain water in between to further dilute it. I keep my brew in an insulated container to prevent it from cooling.
