The new Dr Pepper has 78% added sugar. Am I reading the label wrong?

It seems like they’re dissolving 20% of their product in sugar and marketing it as soda

Answer

I am not sure what you are asking? All sugar in soft drinks is “added sugar”. None of it is natural because there is nothing natural about soda. Based on the nutrition facts in the internet, one can of Dr. Pepper, 12oz, has 40g of sugar. For reference, one 12oz can of Coca Cola has 65g of sugar.

…I don’t know how to respond further because I don’t know where the confusion lies. Yes, soda has lots of sugar, but that’s not anything new.

Answer

I switched to seltzers and it wasn’t that bad, health wise wonderful. 2 or 3 sodas and your days progress is shot. Horrified looking at all my favorites of the past. Don’t drink your calories plus no thanks to kidney stones… not passing a sea urchin over tasty treats.

Answer

When I read this I actually had a hard time believing it was only 78% since looking at a standard can of Dr. Pepper has 40g of sugar which is significantly over the daily recommendation of added sugar alone.

Answer

Yes, you’re reading it completely wrong.

And Yes, soda is extremely unhealthy. That applies to all soda that is not of the sugar free variety, and even those are kind of questionable because artificial sweeteners have some questions around them.
