So i’ve been trying to gain some weight and, since 5 days ago, i’ve been consuming 2700-2800 kcal per day. The thing is, ever since i started, i’ve been waking up in the middle of the night feeling really thirsty; last night i woke up twice to drink some water. Why could this be happening to me? (For context, i used to consume less than 2000 kcal per day, and i’m on a plant-based diet.)
Doesn’t take a genius to figure out you’re not drinking enough water which is why you are waking up thirsty. Judging by your other comments you think you are now getting more water from food and therefore don’t need to drink more water. You are also getting more salt from food. Certain foods dehydrate you. Your water intake should increase in line with your calories. You are dehydrated and your body can’t even make it through the night on your current water intake. How much water do you drink every day?
as a med student I want to tell you that a lot of these comments are dangerous advise from a medical point of view.
I don’t know the reason you want to gain weight. You might be experiencing signs of diabetes (you said you checked your blood glucose a month ago. However, the amount of calories might have derailed things). If you are gaining weight because of an eating disorder recovery process, this might be refeeding syndrome. It might just be that you body needs some time to adjust to the amount food it has to digest.
Do not listen to medical advice on Reddit. This might be nothing or very serious. Go see a doctor.
I model it is fuel just needing water to suspend it; maybe your dehydrated from the water expenditure of loading up your fat cells, and you’re sort of pushing your circadian day forward with the extra eating. But I have little idea what your macros look like.
