This teacher wants to IF- confused about realistic eating window

I begin my school day at 6am and we usually eat dinner around 6:30pm. I have coffee or tea every morning and usually eat breakfast on my way into work. I’m looking to fast 14 hours, eat 10 (fast 6:30pm-8:30am) but am worried about the cranky beast I’ll be for my second graders without any food until realistically 10-10:30am. I really want to make this work. Advice?!

Answer

I work 12hr shifts. 7am-7pm. I drink just black coffee and water until 4 pm, at which point I switch to my eating window from 4-10pm. It’s tough at the beginning, but your body adjusts and the hunger goes away once you’ve retrained your body. Every day is not a struggle like at the beginning.

The biggest thing to remember is that you get hungry because your body is used to getting food at a certain time. Not because you are devoid of nutrients. Once you change that way of thinking, it makes all the difference.

Go super strict for 3-4 weeks to reset all your tolerances and then retrain your body. It’s a big adjustment but I can’t recommend it enough. It changed my life.

Teacher here and I am on site by 7:00. I grab a coffee and water for am. I eat a snack around 11:00. I eat dinner as early as possible 4:00 or 5:00 (done by 6:00 for sure). If I can go from 6 to 11, I get in 17 hours of fasting without too much effort.

Check out LCHF. Reducing your carb intake while increasing healthy fats will reduce in swings in blood glucose levels. These swings can cause one to get “hangry”. It will take some time to adapt to LCHF though.

I’m a para at an elementary school. I do OMAD and have done so since August 2022. Lost 15 lbs. so far. I’d like to lose another 5 lbs. During the school day, which begins at 630am, I’m off and running ALL DAY. By 4pm, I haven’t eaten all day and just doing coffee, water, Perrier and unsweetened tea. My body is used to not eating during the day (5 months later), I’m not hungry at all. My one meal is about 5pm and I immediately start fasting again (rolling fast). So working at school has actually helped me on my weight loss journey by not having time to eat anyway.

I’m a teacher and I love fasting until i get home for dinner. I’m currently doing omad and it took me about 15 days until I didn’t have that lunchtime hunger. I sleep better and I feel amazing. The best part is sometimes I can get home around 4 and sometimes not until 5:30 and when you stay busy you don’t even notice the time fluctuations anymore.
