Tips for getting through fasts?

I’m struggling to complete even one full day of fasting. It’s not even because I’m hungry, but rather I’m bored with nothing to do. I’m a college student who’s at home for the summer, and even though I exercise, walk my dog, and clean as much as possible, it’s still only like three in the afternoon with four whole hours before my fast ends. How do I fix this?

I think this is a sign that fasting is especially good for you. It is very important to dissociate food with emotions such as boredom, stress or sadness, and even to break out the association with eating and certain time periods.

But on how to do it, there’s no magic - it is all about determination. I know this is easier said than done (believe me, it is much easier for me to say it rather than do it hahaha) but all successful fasts came when I had my mind set on fasting and what that would do for me.

Yeah. Do something. Also get a support partner. I just started a 21 day.

Everybody responds to different motivations, but for me, if I got somebody telling a few times a day not to be a wuss, fasting becomes a cake walk. It’s such a mental game

Boredom was definitely one of my biggest hurdles while fasting as well. I tried to push myself a bit and do things I haven’t done in a while, like visit new parts of town, do some light shopping, deep clean my apartment, and I even started meditating. I certainly had to get creative with my time, but after a while you become less focused on food and more focused on all the time you have to do activities or projects you may have been wanting to try. Maybe take your dog to a dog park a little farther away or perhaps lay outside for a while. While you’re fasting you also want to give your body an opportunity to rest and heal, so if that also means an afternoon nap, even if it’s just to pass some time, go for it! You got this.
