To retain as much muscle as possible, should I weightlift?

To preface, I want to do a 30+ day extended water fast, and want to lose as much lean mass as possible. How many times should I lift per week if any? If I lift, how many more electrolytes should I supplement?

I would guess you wouldn’t have to weightlift much, just enough to let your muscles know they aren’t being neglected. Obviously you can’t put on any muscle if you don’t have any protein coming into your system.

If you’re doing 30+ days you should consider having your electrolytes checked during your fast to make sure you won’t have refeeding syndrome. My max is 7 days so I’m not speaking from experience, just something I would do to use as my guide for electrolyte intake.

Happy fasting!

It’s a myth that you burn lean body mass on extended fast unless you don’t have fat to lose or if you don’t eat sufficient protein on reread days.

Your body burns 1st the food you eat, 2nd the fat on your body. 3rd your muscles.

Don’t ask me for the study as I read it 2 years ago when I decided fasting was more effective and better for you than restricted calorie intake. Same study showed not alot of loose skin using fasting vs restricted calories.

Just move your muscles and you will be fine. Mild consitent exercise has been my path. Walking, bands and body weight exercises. [And belly dancin] 😀
