transcobalamine?

Hi there!

Whats the most effective way to measure how much B12 one has? I recently heard that checking transcobalamine instead of “B12” makes more sense… what do you think?

thanks in advance

Answer

The best way to measure how much B12 one has is to measure it directly. Transcobalamin will not provide any information about total B12 levels.

If you are concerned about B12 deficiency, it would be best to cover all your bases and check total B12, holotranscobalamin (holoTC), methylmalonic acid (MMA), and homocysteine (Hcy).
