I have done IF at 16:8 for almost 4 years now. I have gained weight multiple times while doing it at various stages of my weight loss and even when on maintenance. Best example was after I hit my GW at the end of summer and I jumped 15-20 pounds over winter while doing IF because my activity level dropped off and I didn’t decrease my calories to compensate.

The best thing that IF did for me is allowed me to find that natural balance where I no longer do that or the swing is much smaller than it used to be. So this winter for example I am exactly the same weight I was at the beginning of winter because I lowered my caloric intake to deal with my lower activity levels in the winter.

Answer

The only way to lose weight it is to eat less than you expel, every diet is exactly that wrapped in a different bow. IF just makes it easier for many by cutting out a meal and snacking, rather than trying to balance 1500cals (or whatever your number is) throughout the whole day

It is very easy to not lose, or gain weight on IF, even OMAD
