Trying to switch up daily bread intake

I’m from a german speaking western Europe country so eating bread on a daily base is something a lot of people do. While I switched already to whole grain bread, I’ll like to mix it up a bit and thought about switching it with whole grain pasta, barley, buckwheat etc. Mixed with one or two eggs and done.

Compared to my egg sandwich (and my ham & cheese sandwich before that), the new idea seems to be as nutritional as my current daily lunch or even better (less salt and sugar for example). Do I miss something? Or do you think this would be a good daily lunch? I’m more concerned with the overall health status, no calories or protein.

Answer

Well, it definitely shouldn’t be as nutritional as your old diet. While it may be similar in protein and calories, whole grain bread and wholegrain pasta contains significantly more fiber.

Dietary fiber is actually something a lot of people don’t care about, but high fiber intake is important for the bacteria in your gastrointestinal tract. It also lowers the risk of diabetes and various types of cancer.

IMO people should care about the amount of fiber in their diet just as much as they care about protein and carbs. Or at least they should if their goals are to be healthy, not just to build muscles.
