So I made some pressure cooker chicken soup from this recipe:
https://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/how_to_make_chicken_soup_in_the_pressure_cooker/
It calls for a 3 pound chicken, herbs, water, celery, carrot, parsnip, onion, and noodles. I get that the noodles could be calorie dense but.. A serving is
606 Calories, 41g Fat, 9g Carbs, 48g Protein
How does one serving = 600 calories! One bowl of soup has more calories and fat than a big mac! I skipped the noodles in mine but still, that’s so many calories. I did some research and apparently there are only 100 calories in 1 tbsp of chicken fat for instance, and I know I didn’t consume that much grease in my serving. What the heck happened? How do you get THAT many calories out of a pressure cooked chicken and some vegetables in a 2 cup bowl?
Is this recipe doing some wonky auto-generated calorie math or what? I’m going to royally kick myself if I consumed over a thousand calories for some tasty, but basic soup… Does anyone have any guidance or knowledge?
Try using the recipe function on MyFitnessPal (or whatever calorie tracking app you use) to plug in the exact ingredients that you used, and the actual number of servings that you got from the soup. With the way they divided it, each serving of soup has around 1lb meat, which is probably a larger portion than you would actually end up eating - that’s why their calorie count is so high.
