Type 1 diabetes

How can fasting help type 1 diabetes, considering (from what big pharma has said) our insulin cells are not “capable” of being remade. Thank you

Sadly I do not have personal experience coaching people with T1D. I do know that combined with a low carb diet you can indeed fast if you know what you’re doing. Realistically one meal a day or intermittent fasting in a small window is what a T1D should aim for. Remember, if you aren’t eating carbs your body needs less insulin, which means you can lower your insulin injections.

To answer your DM: you will feel hungry while fasting, this is normal. However it is significantly easier to handle if you go into it having eaten low carb for a few days before hand. When you feel hungry and it’s only been 12 hours or less since you last ate then it’s almost always carb withdrawal.

When prolonged fasting your body creates human growth hormone at a much higher rate, as well as stem cell generation. These actually preserve muscle, as your body feeds on your bodyfat for fuel.
