water during meals: does it disrupt digestion?

i’ve always heard not to drink while eating b/c it interferes with digestion. is this an old myth?

how come soups and broths aren’t cautioned against for the same reason?

forgive me if this is obvious.

The only thing I’ve read that has any merit is if you have Dumping Syndrome, drinking immediately after eating can sometimes worsen symptoms. But this only affects people with this disease.

Answer

There is no scientific evidence yet that drinking water during meals can affect the digestive system. In fact, in some cases, it has been found that drinking moderate amounts of water can improve the quality of digestion. improve digestive quality.

I always heard that cold beverages cause digestion problems, and that’s why some Asian cultures drink hot tea with their meals. Idk, it made sense to me because if you have fat/grease it solidifies when its cold. That’s just what I heard. And also that if you are trying to eat less that you should drink water before a meal.

It’s also worth noting that sodas interfere with the brain signals that tell you you’re full. So drinking soda is a great way to eat more than you need.
