Weak legs and dizziness

I was planning on fasting for 14-21 days. I am currently on day 8. I am experiencing extreme fatigue to the point I feel I can barely stand up and I get dizzy when I do sometimes. Throughout the fast I have been trying to take electrolytes per the FAQ. I mix 1 tsp of salt with 1 tsp potassium in 1L of water, and sip it over a couple hours. Then I do it again at night. Then I take 100mg of magnesium 2-3 times per day. The issue has been that every time I do this I get diarrhea. I halved the amount of electrolytes yesterday to try to prevent diarrhea, but it still happened anyway and now I feel worse. Any solutions?

Answer

Stop fasting then. You made it 8 days, that’s incredible and you should actually feel so proud of that!!

Refeed carefully, eat modestly and low carb for a few days or a week, and go at it again

You’re going to put some water weight back on, but that wasn’t weight you lost in the first place. Think of it like a security deposit.

If you can’t take all the electrolytes, you’ll likely have to accept “shorter” fasting durations (7-8 days is still really long).

Answer

Magnesium is a laxative in high doses. Probably why you’re having that problem. I would cut it out of the electrolyte stack. But everyone here is right. Listen to your body and stop fasting, you can readjust and fast again later

Answer

Have you also been drinking coffee/tea? That can add to the dehydration. I would stop fasting and restart. This is a sign to stop since your body is not getting the proper amount of electrolytes and hydration.

Answer

Aw I’m sorry for your experience. Diarrhoea leads to dehydration and fatigue, making the fast that much harder. What’s curious is that your bowels still have waste to eliminate. In a way, I wonder if it’s cleansing?! 🌲🍵
