Weekends for newbies

Hi so I plan on starting at 16:8 fasting with the hope to increase the period. What advice would you give weekends? Keep the fasting period? It’s ok to break?? Thank you in advance

I think you need to try for yourself and see what does and doesn’t work. Some are able to break for the weekends, others can for 1 weekend day, and some can’t.

Personally, I do OMAD and low carb. 1 day a week (usually on the weekend) I do OMAD but no restriction on carbs.

I think from a caloric perspective, if you eat the same amount as you would on a 16:8 day, it doesn’t matter. For me personally, if I break IF for a day or two, there is a negative psychological impact.

Ultimately, I don’t want to only reach my goal weight, but I want to maintain it. Having a “free” day or two doesn’t support my long term health goals.

I recommend keeping your fasting period but eating whatever you want on the weekend. I practice this with the only rule being no soda. It’s important to reward yourself and maintain some sort of normalcy in your life, otherwise you risk burning yourself out. This allows you to cheat but the effects won’t be as bad because you’re still fasting!
