Weekly 48 hour fast

Is it healthy to follow at 16:8 IF plan but also fast for 48 hours a week? Everything I’m reading talks about a 5:2 plan where you eat normal 5 days of the week but I’m thinking about doing 16:8 5 days and then a 48 hour fast.

Answer

I think if you are new to fasting it would be a good idea to work up to it. Try for a 24 hour fast once a week, and when you are capable push it out to a 36 hour fast.

When you start getting to longer periods of fasting you can actually cause yourself serious harm when you are refeeding. You need to introduce food back slowly and there are a few videos on YouTube that talk about these dangers and what foods are okay and what are not.

There are advantages to be had and yes it can be incorporated but if you are new to fasting you should be aware that you could put yourself in a health emergency if you are not careful.

Answer

Don’t go too overboard your first few weeks or you might burn out and give up on IF. Try for 16:8 only starting out, if that’s too tough, drop to 15:9. After you are pretty well comfortable with 16:8 then try for a 24 hour fast once a week and work your way to 48 hours if you so wish.
