Weight GAIN on a fast?!

SW: 155 2 days ago: 137.2 (-Lost 17.8 lbs in 12 days)

Today… 138.5 (+Gained 1.3 lbs)

Only difference is that I started drinking 1 pack of Liquid IV per day for electrolytes (I know it has sugar, my other LMNT ones are on their way) and I’ve had a few sips, maybe like 10 sips total of pickle juice spread through the day, and 1 cup chicken broth per day.

So it’s not a water fast, it’s a liquid fast.

Wondering if the sugar in Liquid IV bumped my weight up, or the salt/vinegar in the pickle juice retaining water?

Also might be hormones? In my Luteal phase.

Advice appreciated… a little scared to re-feed now lol

Answer

Daily weight fluctuation is completely normal. As long as the overall trend is downward, you’re good.

2 days is not enough time to establish a trend. Weigh daily for a month then come back and look at it.

My advice is, stop being afraid because it increases cortisol which increases ghrelin which makes you eat stuff in order to lower cortisol. WEIGHT FLUCTUATIONS ARE NORMAL. Do research and don’t stress too much about it. Have a solid habit and stick to it. Stop fearing the scale. And if you do, don’t weigh yourself.

Answer

Hormones can definitely make you retain water. (They can also make me constipated, but at least that doesn’t happen on a fast!) Not sure if it’s the luteal phase for me, but I definitely know when to expect the scale to be higher each month!

Answer

On day 17 of a 31 day fast I gained 3 lbs out of nowhere. I hadn’t had a single calorie in 17 days and hadn’t made any changes to my routine. 2 days later it disappeared along with the weight I would expect to lose in that time. Fasting is weird and our bodies be crazy sometimes.

It’s all about the long term trend.
