I did a kettlebell workout three times during a five day fast. I didn’t go as heavy as usual and I had to go a bit slow… but overall it felt pretty good. Hopefully it protected a little muscle. I’d say go for it but listen to your body and be willing to turn it down a notch from your usual performance.
Depends on tolerance to fasting and how you feel. Monitor your body and know your limits. Humans weren’t laying about for their food to come to them during the few days they were on the hunt, but I wouldn’t go crazy and trying to hit new personal bests but yea there’s nothing wrong with pushing some weights and getting the blood flowing but wait until you’ve refeed and feel the gorilla strength to really get lifting hard again.
If you were lifting before the fast, you should be good to continue. I’d say don’t go for PRs or muscle burnout but maintaining.
If you weren’t lifting before, you should be ok to do some light lifting and general exercise. Don’t go to hard and listen to your body.
I do. Haven’t died yet. I wouldn’t go for a PR, and I wouldn’t do crazy heavy movements without a spotter. But I work out daily, do either weights or cardio fasted, and eat hours later on OMAD. In the middle of a 72hr fast, today will be my second fasted workout. Just listen to your body.
The answer is obviously going to be different if you are discussing an intermittent fast versus a long one.
Even at 23/1 after you get used to it you shouldn’t have any weight lifting related issues.
As for long-term, you need to judge on a case by case basis. There’s really no need to do anything but walk or bike on a long-term in all honesty. You can use the evolutionary argument but there’s nothing natural about lifting weights so it’s pointless.
