So for the past few days I’ve been doing 22 hour fasts, and OMAD. Today being Thanksgiving I had a cheat day cause it’s the holidays. Got home and checked my blood sugar with a finger prick and it was 50mg/dl never had it that low, drank an orange soda and now it’s back up to 89mg/dl
Did I do something wrong by flooding my body with carbs and alcohol after doing such long fast for the past week? And my body just insulin dumped too much? My average fasting is typically 75mg/dl - 85mg/dl.
This freaked me out, but I felt totally fine. I monitor my blood glucose wake up, lunch and before dinner. Never seen it that low with a blood draw.
Any thoughts? Relations?
Liver can either process carbs or alcohol. Alcohol takes priority. When it process alcohol, gluconeogenesis stops although glucose will still enter the blood from digestion.
Finger sticks can also be inaccurate if your hands were cold. Pseudo-hypoglycemia can result.
