Weird question. Kinda embarrassing… about pooping

Forgive me this is long Thanks in advanced

TL;DR; How can constipation affect your body’s actually being in a fasting state ? I feel like I’m not getting there, any more or much… /

So I have ibs-c which means prone to constipation. And just a funny gassy tummy in general.

A huge thing I love about IF is how it simplifies my life. Food takes SO much time. To prepare, (I love cooking, but get lazy w myself, (esp when wanting to be and stay focused on work or school, or any task, really,) but don’t love eating,) then eat, (ok I enjoy eating, but I hate the feeling after,) then digesting, (the problem time.)

The problem time feels like mostly always as my tummy is bloated so often. Eating or not. After a good poop day I can easily lose 6 lbs (this happened the other week.) When emptied and hydrated I feel so much better.

Here’s my question: So if you eat, then start your fast, and your body is still full of food, won’t that essentially make the digestion time Not count as fasting? So if I go 16 hours it’s really more like 12, or less if I’m constipooted.

I like being consistent so I get past the grisly hungries. It baffles my mind that I can feel so full and still start getting “hunger” growls.

It’s SO much simpler to just not deal with food all day as it takes time (I hate cleaning dishes, too.) It is unpleasant to not be empty.

I’m prolly dehydrated. And I guess it’s a lame habit, eating more than once a day, which I already pretty much did, but I’ll have a snack like a string cheese and a piece of fruit.

So I feel dumb for asking, it just doesn’t make sense how having a bite of protein or a sip of whiskey can ruin the whole thing. Think I need to overall count calories more/better. I used to keep low fat and high fiber (try) but after reading about IF, it’s recommended to eat full fat for the longer satiation.

So all these little imbalances are surely affecting my plateau. I lost 10lbs relatively fast after like a week of no change, I’d see a lb go like every couple days. Still took 2-3 months for 10lbs. That seems like ages ago. Maybe my calendar is off, but I’m not losing anymore. And my weight fluctuates the most around pooping.

Yea my Dr knows and is a supporter. Unlike most people she doesn’t freak out and think I’m starving myself unhealthy like or something.

Back to the topic, is slow digestion or constipation something to take in account for the efficacy of your fasting / eating schedule, and if so how and what can or should I do?

Ironically it might all be blamable on anxiety, which by this post you can tell I’m obviously a sufferer of.

I also fast in the day because like I said, it’s uncomfortable and makes me tired and not feeling well after I eat. And I’ve always been a night muncher, anyway. And now I sleep part of my eating window and hope that helps restrict my calories, too.

I think I need to eat less calories and bring the olive oil and butter gratuity down, again…

Hopefully the Mira lax from my Dr will start working and when I’m regular the regularity of fasting will work better.

Thanks for reading. I know I’m long winded!

Any other funny tummy people out there? How’s it been for you?

Thanks. Ps I’m 43 5’6” 126 on a good day. A couple lbs do matter! Wish me good pooping and I wish you the same

Ive read that fasting can cause constipation at first as your body is detoxing. And cause you don’t have one meal to push out the last… dunno I’ve read a lot, for years. Hence, I’m asking.

Answer

You are in a fasted state when insulin levels are low. Insulin rises when the body detects rise of blood sugar, which happens when the body digests carbs and turn it into glucose. Carbs are generally the first thing to get digested and so the rise in insulin happens at the beginning of the process and slowly falls as food gets digested.

How IBS will effect this process IDK, you might want to ask your physician about it.

You could measure ketones with urine test strips to see when you are entering fasted state.
