What amount of calorie intake constitutes breaking a fast?

Hi - basically title, and would love to get some scientific sources. Most I’ve seen are parroting some random guy who said 50kcal doesn’t break a fast.

I’m trying to do OMAD, but have been in the habit of getting a refreshing drink a few hours before bed. Drink is keto coffee (40 kcal) with some cream (20kcal) worth in it, so \~60kcal. I could easily push this down to below 50 if it doesn’t constitute a break; or eliminate it if I really have to, but I’d love to know if I can keep it.

Thanks!

I’d strongly recommend reading fast feat repeat by Gin Stephens! She talks about the “clean fast”. Basically, only water, black coffee, or plain tea during your fasting window. Any calories at all break a fast, and sweet-tasting things or fats (like cream in coffee) make it way harder to fast bc you’ll be more hungry. Good luck!!
