I’m looking at the nutrition label for the pomegranate juice powder from Navitas (https://navitasorganics.com/products/pomegranate-powder), it say per serving has 5 grams of total carbs, 0 g fiber, and 1 g sugar. My question is, what’s the other 4 grams of carbs? It’s not like pomegranate juice powder would have 4 grams of starch, right?
Every carb is a complex of sugars. It depends on where do you draw the line between them. Now we have other complexes that include other substances. Pectin has other things besides sugars. Mucilage is a complex of peoteins and carbs
Product labels are regulated but allow for some less than completely honest portrayals of the contents. “Zero Carbs” is a common example. By making the serving size small many of the nutritional items fall below the minimum reporting requirement so they can legally state it is zero. I always try to Google foods I’m unfamiliar with asking for the nutritional facts in a pound or kilo. You still have to be careful if you want complete information. Fiber is often just listed as fiber rather than breaking down soluble and insoluble fiber. Some body builders for example want to dig even deeper into protein profiles and amino acids, etc.
