Answer

Ginger naturally contains salicylates (like aspirin, which is acetylsalicylic acid). One of the things that happens in the body with salicylates, especially in large amounts, is a reduction in the ability of your blood to clot as readily or properly. This is of increased importance for anyone who has a heart condition requiring them to take anticoagulant medication such as Coumadin (warfarin). Though we are aware of the effects of salicylates in the body, I don’t believe there has been enough targeted research done to say this definitely does or does not happen with any particular variations of ginger or ginger root supplements specifically. There is discussion in the scientific world regarding this topic, though - see this from 2019 re: the effects of ginger supplements on INR (which is a measure of how long it takes blood to clot) as an example. Anecdotally, high doses may also cause heart palpitations for some individuals. Unfortunately we just don’t have that much solid research on this (as is common with OTC supplements).
