what do studies say about fasting and cortisol?

I tend to notice when i swtich my fasting protocol (ie 2 meals) or get to 36 hours on longer fasts, evne if i am not stressed/haven’t worked out job stress etc my corstiol/stress just shoots up out of nowhere. is there any seicen on where corstisol peaks, say on longer ffasts? how long does it take to come back down/adjust (ie hours or weeks). i know eercise induces a short time spike, but im curius about longer term dietary pattern changes here

Cortisol levels definitely go up with prolonged fasts. There’s a lot of studies out there to support this, unfortunately.Ppl can’t sleep during fasts because of high cortisol.When you read that fasting is a major stressor on the body, this is one major reason.Sometimes, I have to break an extended fast because my mental status completely deteriorates because of high cortisol. I think if it wasn’t for this, we’d all just be dealing with hunger issues.
