Is it better to fast frequently (like IF), do a 24-36hr fast a week, or longer e.g. 72 hours once a month?
And why?
Primary concern is inflammation control, autophagy, immune system boosting, etc. Not weight loss.
Frequent fasts for me bring consistent benefits, I will only long fast usually to kick start weight loss if I’ve started overeating (usually after the holiday season). The frequent fasting (20:4, 7 days a week) has kept me from feeling the need for any long fasts for a couple years now. Edit - Its hard to measure the factors you are concerned with but I will say that consistent IF and clean(ish) eating has stabilized my weight, reduced almost all my digestive issues to nothing and got me looking about 10 years younger than my peers.
