It depends on why you are fasting - But, In general, my go to experts are Jason Fung, MD (Nephrologist), Pradip Jamnadas, MD (Cardiologist), and scientists, Mark Mattson (Johns Hopkins) and David Sinclair (Harvard). The Buchinger Wilhelmi Clinic offers some very interesting findings as well. I also recommend Robert Lustig, MD (Endocrinologist) because you need to eat too…
Be careful as there are many opportunists in the fasting space- from chiropractors to trainers and everything in between.
i recommend a biochemistry book which presents metabolic pathways.i am a med school student and the first time i’ve heard about fasting was in biochemistry class. in my opinion it is the best approach, because there are only pure scientific facts. eg: when one reaches ketosis, the ketones are excreted alongside calcium and magnesium. what can we learn from this scientific fact: during fasting we need to supplement those ions, especially calcium since it has such an important role in muscle contraction, including the myocardium.
