What is the “better” carb: pasta or jasmine rice?

I usually make jasmine rice with my meals, but am starting to get burnt out on it. It seems pasta has a lot more vitamins and minerals which makes it more appealing to me.

Answer

White Jasmine rice is a starchy food with very little fiber and high levels of arsenic (depending on where it’s grown and how it’s prepared). It’s a good idea to vary your starches, and to consider cooking either brown or colorful varieties of Jasmine rice for the phytonutrients and additional fiber. Do be aware of the arsenic issue with rice and prepare accordingly.

Answer

Do as you like, if you eat lots of veggies without, preferably lean protein and you’ll be fine.

If you are diabetic or overweight you lower the amount of rice or pasta and increase veggies and protein.

Answer

Doesn’t matter.

Just make sure you get enough fiber, protein, vitamins, and minerals. Don’t overeat, and try to limit sugar and hydrogenated vegetable oils. That’s 99% of eating healthy for most people.

Answer

Carbs are carbs. The main knock against rice and pasta is that they are calorie-dense so try not to eat too much but you should eat a variety of things to get a well-rounded bunch of nutrients into you.
