What is the deal with nutritional yeast?

Many people in my friend group are raving about nutritional yeast, like Braggs brand or supplements. Is it really a good Parmesan substitute, or are the extremely height vitamin b doses not worth the risk? Specifically, concerned about the link between high doses of vita B and lung cancer. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6642017/ Do the benefits outweigh the risk for people? Are there any pros or cons to using this in things like cold salads, on popcorn, or in smoothies?

This is a corrected post. Thanks!

Answer

You can buy nutritional yeast that’s not fortified, if you’re concerned about excessive B vitamin intake. But yeah, I love the stuff. Great source of protein, and has a great flavor that makes everything taste better.

Answer

It tastes amazing and can be used in many ways to add a cheesiness to something or also umami to other dishes.

It’s a staple for a lot of vegans who have been eating it in bulk for many years with no issues. I wouldn’t be concerned unless you start eating pounds of it a day

Answer

It does taste wonderful and is easy to add into so many things.. best always to talk with your own medical professional if there are dietary concerns, not go by a device reading unless it’s been prescribed.
