What is the worst-tasting, healthiest drink out there?

I’m talking about anything that would be a nutritional powerhouse to down a glass of or more every day if it just didn’t taste so bad. Is there such a thing?

Answer

I drink beet juice with carrots and celery juice. I used to have really bad blood pressure, but this stuff controls my blood pressure better than any medicine. The literature on beets helping blood pressure is pretty extensive as well. The carrots and celery also help with lowering cholesterol and blood pressure.

Honestly anything that’s not water. Nothing else is truly necessary. Everything else I need comes from whole foods.

That’s not to say I don’t have a treat now and again, I do! I just don’t think of anything else as a “health drink”.

  1. Raw living spirulina. Not a drink, but a spoonful of this stuff, in my opinion is unbelievable gross yet insanely nutrient dense.
  2. Raw Kefir. Good ole sour milk. Starts to grow on you after a while but I remember the first few times I had some of this I almost threw up in my mouth. Also insanely nutrient dense as well as contains a ton of beneficial bacteria and enzymes.

I’ve tried a couple of those mushroom coffee replacements, I’ve found one that’s nice now, but it was a trial and error process. Some of them tasted so disgustingly earthy, but the mix also didn’t dissolve so it was gritty…. Honestly like drinking mud water.

Firstly, you say ‘every day’ - I might mention I don’t think schedules that literally repeat every day are my first choice, and if someone can work in some days of moderate to hard fasting, I think they are doing better.

And smart diet varies from person to person, and changes over a lifetime. Also, a lot of what goes into determining the healthiest food for you is just what foods you have been avoiding.

A rational solution then might be to mix a variety of low starch vegetables in a blender, perhaps steaming or blanching to unlock some nutrients, and/or break down some antinutrients. Some people should avoid oxalate, but I would love to see some spinach in there because it tastes like denim and has twice the protein. You could do green beans, celery, parsley, and zucchini but some of that might make it more palatable; not sure what you’re going for exactly. But what is stopping me here is just prep and clean-up…

Which brings me to the most powerful option - and it was almost a tie with just having nothing - but spirulina and black coffee/green tea might be a little better, along with some electrolytes and maybe some broth.

I do a smoothie of 1 cup (homemade) trim kefir, 1 small banana, 1/2 cup frozen cauliflower, 1/2 cup frozen spinach, 1/2 cup blueberries. It honestly doesn’t taste that bad. You can’t even taste the cauliflower, and spinach is mostly hidden by the fruit. It’s full of nutrients and probiotics, I have it daily
