What sort of foods can you do with beans?

Beans are cheap, but I don’t know just what types of foods to eat with them.

I put a tortilla directly on the burner, toast it a bit, then top it w a can or half a can of black beans and 2 or 3 fried eggs. Hot sauce good too. Done w/in 10m. Good for breakfast or dinner. I prolly do this 4 or 5 meals a week.

Lentils can be used in most recipes that call for ground beef, aside from sticky things like burgers (there are also recipes for lentil burgers though).

Black brands, kidney beans and pinto beans are often used for Mexican style foods. I use them to make chilli.

Lentils and chickpeas are lovely in curries.

Larger beans like white beans go well in salads.

You can also have things like hummus, roasted chickpeas as a snack, steamed edamame as a side.

Then there’s the British classic; baked beans on toast.

And if you want to get more creative beans can also work well in baked recipes. I’ve added Okara to cakes and it makes the texture lighter and fluffier. Black bean brownies or chickpea blondies are common.

Besan (chickpea) flour can be used to make an omelette alternative, also works well for an eggless quiche.

Remember that tofu is also made of beans so that gives you even more versatility. Tofu scramble is a great alternative to scrambled eggs, and I add a “gravy” made from soy milk, besan flour, herbs and spices that makes it more runny than straight tofu. Tofu is also lovely in stir fried, soups, sushi… Something I made recently is tofu grated with a box grater, then sauteed until crispy, and I add BBQ sauce to make a “shredded BBQ tofu”. So good in a burger bun with slaw!

I take pinto beans and give them a quick mash then into tortillas with cheese and burritos!

Some great northern beans then Add some Italian seasoning and garlic, then after I take them off the stove I add chopped tomatoes, maybe onions.

Chili.

I’m in the same boat and looking for more ideas to increase my intake. Right now I’m just seasoning them and serving them on the side. Maybe add some spices to complement my main.

I like to add beans with some veg to my hamburger when making tacos, really tasty

Also chickpeas are great in curry. I made a quick curry the other night with them and it turned out so good, highly reccomend

Chilli, bolognese, burritos, mix them with rice so rather than just having plain ol’ rice as a side dish, it’s rice and beans, tacos, soups, and you can put them into homemade burgers. Black beans are my absolute favourite
