When I read the can and saw the saturated fat of my coconut milk, I was in shock and sad.
Is it bad for you or is it the “good fat”. Because last I checked saturated is bad and I can’t find a solid answer.
Saturated fat definitely isn’t “the good fat.” The people going that far are selling coconut products or gullible. My understanding is it’s not as bad for you as trans fats but there is still cause for concern, best to consume in moderation for now. I’m not an expert, though, this is just my best attempt at summarizing what I’ve read off the top of my head filtering out the crap sources.
As long as you’re keeping your saturated fat intake under 7-10% of total calories it’s fine to eat saturated fat. The risk curve for saturated fat is S shaped, from 0 to 7-10% there is a statistically insignificant risk increase in heart disease. After 10% on average it spikes at almost a 90 degree angle then flattens out again.
