I love my veges and I’m majority plant based don’t get me wrong, but one of the most touted vegetables I see is kale. I use a decent amount of it now it’s very cheap and I like the taste. What’s so nutritionally amazing about kale and it’s hype as a health food? How much of it is fad and how much of it is legitimate.
It’s not a magic superfood or anything. So any marketing that tells you one specific kind of food will make you fit, lose 50 lbs or fix your health problems is BS.
But it’s extremely nutrient-dense. Kind of like broccoli and spinach.
For best results, eat a variety of fruits and vegetables. Don’t overthink it too much.
To be fair, I’d say kale was peak hyped in 2013-2015.Then it was avocados (yes I know it’s fruit), then brussel sprouts, then cauliflower, then celery, then cabbage, then it was beets… Same with milks. The 90s was all “Got Milk?” Then soy was the popular alternative, then almond, hemp, now oat.
Americans are learning about whole foods and healthy eating after decades of fast food and wartime shelf stable meals. “Health food” was once relegated to religious groups but now it’s gone mainstream! Which is good but it also means that capitalism is gonna sweep in and market the hell out of something as simple as vegetables, which leads to trends, just like everything else trends, so does food.
