What's the longest fast you've done without any electrolytes?

Disclaimer: To anybody reading this: it is much safer and easier to follow the electrolytes guidelines so that is what you should do.

Personally I have done 5 days with just water and no salt as the most and I did get a little bit of heart palpitations the last day. I was rather active every day though with long hikes in the middle of summer.

Curious to hear from anyone who has gone for even longer like 7 days, 14 days etc?

Anybody out here, out there, out there? :)

Answer

The problem with lack of electrolytes, especially in longer fasts (or several subsequent fasts) is that the most dangerous side effect, sudden electrolyte imbalance caused by refeeding, does not have any symptoms, and is possibly lethal.

So it isn’t just a matter of feeling better or not, but avoiding a very dangerous and possible side effect.
