I’ve been a runner for a while. I also do plenty of calisthenics and weight training. I’m not addicted to exercising, but with running in particular consistency is important. So I don’t want to stop completely if I go on a 3 day fast.
The running I do right now is very low paced, low heart rate stuff.
Anybody here have experience in staying active while fasting? What were your experiences? Any tips?
I walked a hundred miles during a 10 day fast, and generally I do the same workout on a fast day as a fed day with fewer sets per rep but more reps. I run 1.5 miles fasted, but that’s the same amount I run fed.
I do my regular runs when I fast, between 2.5-5 miles, slow pace. The only time I ran into trouble was on day 4 of a 5 day fast I tried to run twice in one day and had to stop the second run, and then stop the fast.
I would say go for it and just listen to your body and don’t be too proud to stop if you need to.
I have found running much better whilst fasting. Could do 14 miles at a slow pace but that seemed to be the optimal distance before I started to decline in performance. Have not fasted more than 36hrs but definitely preferred to run in a fasted state
I do CrossFit while fasting, longest I’ve done is 5 days and I went every day. It’s been fine, the second day I’m usually not at my peak but I can always get through it and my energy picks back up after that
