when does the mental struggle and cravings end?

At what point of an extended fast does it become the norm for you to go without eating? and when you do adapt to it, are you able to enjoy the activities of your day just as much as you did before the fast? Do the cravings ever come back unexpectedly?

Answer

A few weeks in if that’s your first fast.

For example, I started 23/1 omad, first day were hard especially as I enjoyed to snack a lot of salted stuff (chips, cheesy puff etc).

Now I stick to 1 meal a day, I slowly lost the food addiction and snacking urge. Just do something else instead, your body will adapt and the hunger goes away. After a while, only eat one meal a day just become easy and get to your routine, you no longer wait for that meal, you just enjoy it when it’s time to eat and that’s it !

For longer fast (1-8 days) hungers goes away the second or third day for me.

Good luck

Answer

For me it took around 2 weeks, so roughly 4 cycles of 72 hour fasts with one food break day beeing the fourth day.

By the third cycle, I noticed it was easier getting into the fasting groove and by the fourth one even my wife made a comment about me complaining less. 😄

I found it helpful to track my weight every day, as working towards a goal instead of working away from something keeps motivation higher on average.

Also, if you tell yourself “not yet” instead of “I cant” makes it better. Less final. A bucket list of sorts, if you will.
