Which is more important the 16 or the 8?

I’ve recently started 16:8. I start my fasting at 4pm and go to midnight. Where I get confused is if my last calorie intake is at 10pm, should/can I start at 2pm the next day? If I do start at 2pm and end up going to midnight (10 hours), but wait until 4pm again the next day (16 hours), am I defeating the purpose?

Is it more important to always ensure there is 16 hours between eating windows, or to always cap the eating hours to 8 hour?

Answer

I don’t think a couple of hours here and there are going to make a difference, what’s important is getting in a consistent schedule and it eventually averages out. I’d try to get back on your regular schedule immediately and not make any special accommodations to “make up for it”.

Do you literally eat at midnight? I assume you are a shift worker or something? What is your normal sleeping window?
