White tongue, a sign of detox but why?

I have always heard that having a white tongue is a sign of detoxification. As the tongue is also an emunctory.

Does someone have more information about it? Is it’s a specific part of the body who is cleaning?

I wonder about it because i start having white tongue even after just skipping one meal in intermittent fast or after doing some sport like cardio.

Answer

In Traditional Chinese medicine as well as Ayurveda, the coating on the tongue can indicate what’s going on in your digestion. I believe it’s related to the liver, intestines, and blood. It is definitely a common cleansing reaction.
