Why am I drinking WAY too much water?

Hi! In my previous post I talked about how I recently did my longest fasts yet. I resumed my normal eating patterns (except that I’m gonna be in ketosis for some days) and starting feeling better. The thing is, even two days after I’m still not fully recovered. Manly I feel a little bad after eating, my digestion is not very good. And I also noticed I’m drinking a lot of water, and by a lot, I mean a LOT of water. To the point I basically had my water bottle nearby to drink at all times (I felt better by doing it) and I had to go to the bathroom every 20 minutes. It wasn’t normal. I know that prolonged fasting comes with water loss because of the lose of glycogen, but this was too much. As I mentioned before, I accidentally took too much salt by accident three days ago. Could that be the reason? Or maybe my body wasn’t prepared to eat again and I should have waited even more to eat after breaking my fast?

Answer

How much water are you actually drinking? I drink around 3.7L of water a day which is the recommended amount for men. My longest fast was 72 hours and I definitely had digestive issues after breaking my fast and that’s normal. You can lessen digestive issues by breaking your fast with something like bone broth and then easing into eating an hour or two later and picking foods that are easy on your digestive system and not a lot of carbs.

Answer

I had hit that point, bathroom every 20 minutes…

Gatorade.

Sprinkle some salt in your water.

I recently discovered those water flavor packets and there are electrolyte ones.

Especially if you do a diet where you’re avoiding carbs, you need more salt/electrolytes.

Answer

You didn’t say how long your fast was but it sognificantly slows your appetite for 3-5 days.

Your gut biome has starved to death. Some kefir or probiotics will help your stomach quickly. I make sure to have a cup or so after a fast.

Replacing all that glycogen will make you drink like crazy. Normal, especially with the added salt
