Why are my legs sore after a 3-day fast?

Hi all,

Frequently after a 3-day fast (or 2- or 4-day), my energy drops as soon as I break my fast. That appears to be a common occurrence, according to other posts I read.

However, the next day after breaking my fast, my legs are often very and uncomfortably sore, as if I had had a major leg workout, but I hadn’t.

I wonder if anyone else has experienced this or had any idea what could cause it.

Thanks

Answer

It is possible that you may not experience symptoms during the fast because the electrolyte imbalance is not severe enough to cause noticeable changes. However, once you break the fast and begin consuming food again, the sudden change in electrolyte levels could trigger symptoms.

It takes calories to digest food. Roughly 10% of the calories you eat go into actual digestion, but if you’re starting from a fasted ketogenic state.

You need Sodium, Potassium, and Magnesium during your fast to overcome the leg soreness after your fast is done.

My understanding is that we all have toxins and deficiencies in different locations in our bodies. Normally the pain or cramping signals from them are weak, but when you fast your body is able to focus on those much more, and thus the pains emerge.

You know that saying, high tides raise all boats? I believe the concept is similar with fasting. Normally your body has enough food coming in to kind of cover up various problems in your body, but once that food has stopped for a while, the areas of your body that have greater deficiencies, or toxins, start freaking out first.
