Why do people buy pea protein isolate if it’s not complete?

Seems like a waste, no? Unless you want to mix the protein with something else like brown rice protein, but at that point might as well just get a plant blend protein…

Answer

Over the last couple years, they seem to de-emphasize getting complete protein in a single meal and instead recommend eating a variety of protein sources. https://health.clevelandclinic.org/do-i-need-to-worry-about-eating-complete-proteins/

My family has a pea allergy and a bunch of people with an intolerance to free glutamic acid, so we would shun anything with this stuff. I much prefer getting nutrients from food.

Answer

Every plant on the planet contains protein and every plant on the planet contains all amino acids - some just in short supply, but they are present.

Look at beautiful figure 1 and be in awe. It’s crazy how much bro science is out there regarding protein.

Answer

It has a majority of the essential amino acids at a higher bio-availablity, it can be better on its own than with rice protein assuming other plant proteins (of a good quality) fill the small (but still relevant) gap.

Also people who want to avoid grains and grain products.

Generally speaking, if your diet requires it, you need a better diet. But I use from time to time in my recipes for different reasons, I will always recommend a high quality (preferably grassfed), unflavoured whey protein over pea protein anyday. High in B vitamins, minerals and is good in amino acids (higher than meat) if you’re keeping your eye on lactose… whey isolate. Then you should consider egg white protein and if you’re not a fan, then I’d push pea protein.

Answer

When you are dealing with protein isolates, you can have situations where even though the amino acid profile isn’t good, the sheer amount of protein in a serving allows you to get a good amount of all amino acids through brute force.
