l heard that insulin blocks growth hormone release which is why it is unhealthy to eat before bed as it will raise your insulin. So then l wondered what l eat something like chicken breast which is basically pure protein , then blood sugar wont increase and logically so does insulin. But as it turns out, consumption of protein does raise insulin levels, why is that ?
Gluconeogenesis. Your body needs sugar and will produce it out of the protein you eat or even the protein from your tissue. This is often why diabetics get into a coma, they are fasting for some reason, and think they don’t need insulin
Insulin is about more than just glucose control, it has many other functions in the body. Insulin that’s too high is bad. Insulin that’s too low is also bad, that’s what happens to T1 diabetics. It falls too low and they waste away. You want to have a reasonable level of it.
There is a lot of media about lowering insulin and preventing insulin spikes - understand this is geared towards those of us who are making or taking too much insulin.
