Why does the recommended amount of daily sodium on this sub deviate so much from google?

Google is telling me healthy intake is maximally 2.3, whereas this sub recommends 3-6g?

I disagree with the other comments here. We used to have four times the salt that is recommended today a century ago. Read “The Salt Fix” by Dr. James DiNicolantonio.

People on the keto subreddit recommend 5g of salt a day. Fasting is similar to the keto diet in that prolonged fasting puts you into a state of ketosis. We need more salt when we use fat as energy instead of carbs, because carbs help store water in the body. Eliminating carbs, whether by diet choices or by fasting, causes you to lose water and therefore flush out your electrolytes. More salt counteracts this and supports water retention and other very important bodily functions, such as brain activity. The daily recommended value of sodium and potassium was formulated based on people who eat at least a moderate amount of carbs, so it’s too low for low carb diets or extended fasting.

This sub is kinda toxic with the sodium talk.. like it’s the cure for anything and everything which can be very dangerous to some people. I’m not saying it’s not important. I’m saying it’s just getting absurd how the answer to everything is “electrolytes” to some people. That’s not science; that’s reckless.
